March Madness
March Adventures: Bass, a Sunken Boat, and Scouting Deer Country
March was one of those months that reminded us why we spend so much time outdoors. Not everything went to plan, but the stories that come from the mishaps are often the ones worth telling.
Chasing Bass at Lake St Clair
The month kicked off with a trip west to Lake St Clair, with bass firmly on the agenda. Conditions looked ideal, and after launching the boat it wasn't long before we were casting around standing timber, rocky points and submerged structure.
The fish were happy to play, with bass responding well to a mix of reaction lures. The Hard Vibe proved to be a standout when working deeper timber and drop-offs, while the Stiff Pencil came into its own during the low-light periods, drawing some explosive surface strikes that make bass fishing so addictive.
After a steady morning on the water, we pulled up for a well-earned afternoon tea. That's when the trip took an unexpected turn.
Zak had accidentally left the bilge pump for the live bait tank running while the boat was tied up. By the time we wandered back after our break, the pump had been quietly filling the boat with water. It was sitting much lower than we'd left it, and for a moment we wondered if the day was about to end very differently.
After a few laughs, plenty of head scratching and a bit of teamwork, we managed to get everything sorted and back on the water. It's one of those mistakes that every boater learns from—and thankfully one that only cost us a bit of pride and a good story for the rest of the trip.
With the boat floating where it belonged again, we finished the afternoon chasing more bass before making the trip home, already planning the next session.
Scouting New Deer Country
Later in the month, Zak and Brenden traded rods for boots and headed out across the Central Coast to scout some promising deer country.
The goal wasn't to hunt—it was to learn the country. The pair spent the day walking ridgelines, checking creek systems, glassing clearings and looking for fresh sign including tracks, rubs, wallows and well-used game trails.
While no deer were spotted during the trip, there was plenty of fresh sign that suggested the area holds good numbers. Finding productive country takes time, and every scouting trip builds valuable knowledge for the coming season.
Having quality gear makes long days in the bush far more enjoyable, and we'll be adding more hunting equipment and accessories to the Reggies Fishing & Hunting Supplies range as we continue spending more time exploring new country.
Gear That Worked
A few favourites that earned their place this month:
Hard Vibe – Perfect for working deeper water and locating active bass holding around timber.
Stiff Pencil – An exciting topwater option when bass are feeding on the surface during the early morning and late afternoon.
Snake Bait – While built for targeting big Murray cod, it has already earned a permanent spot in the tackle box for future freshwater adventures.
Looking Ahead
March delivered a bit of everything—quality bass fishing, an unforgettable reminder to double-check every switch before leaving the boat, and productive days exploring new hunting country on the Central Coast.
These are the experiences that shape everything we do at Reggies Fishing & Hunting Supplies. Every lure we design and every product we stock is influenced by real days on the water and in the bush. We don't just sell the gearwe put it to work.
We're looking forward to what April has in store. Until then, tight lines, safe hunting, and don't forget to check that everything's switched off before sitting down for afternoon tea!
